Hi, I'm Janice.

I believe the smallest acts of kindness create BIG ripples. We all know that's true!

For most of my career, I was an educator, helping young people discover the joy of learning, the value of curiosity, and the importance of caring for one another. Whether I was teaching in classrooms, leading nature-based programs, mentoring future teachers, or creating opportunities for families to connect with nature and one another, one thing always remained at the center of my work: helping people feel seen, valued, and connected. I'm not saying I'm the best or perfect in that, but I do try!

One of the greatest joys of my life was co-founding Family Adventures in Nature, a free family nature club that brought thousands of families together over more than a decade. Watching children discover the outdoors, parents build friendships, and strangers become a community reinforced something I've always believed: meaningful change begins with simple, shared experiences.

The Little BIG Kindness Corner grew from that same belief.

I wanted to create something simple, joyful, and accessible—a place where neighbors and strangers alike could pause, take a small act of kindness, leave one behind, connect with each other, or simply be reminded that goodness still exists in the world.

Kindness isn't always about grand gestures. It's a painted rock that makes someone smile. A handwritten note. A flower left on a doorstep. A little gratitude. A few encouraging words when someone needs them most.

After experiencing some difficult seasons in my own life—including a successful battle with cancer—I found myself paying even closer attention to the people whose simple acts of kindness made all the difference. It reminded me that we rarely know what someone else is carrying, and that even the smallest gesture can change the direction of someone's day. The Little BIG Kindness Corner is my little way of paying that kindness forward.

My hope is that this little corner inspires people of all ages to notice opportunities to spread kindness in their own communities. If one small act inspires another, and then another, together we can create something much bigger than any one person could do alone. I am challenging myself to reach outside of my "friends and family" bubble, to people I don't know well, or maybe don't know at all!

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you'll join me in proving that kindness really is contagious.

With gratitude,

Janice
